Medical Imaging

Culpeper Regional Health System Medical Imaging DepartmentWhether you need an ultrasound to check the progress of your pregnancy, a routine mammogram to screen for breast cancer, or another imaging test like a CT scan or MRI, Culpeper Regional Health System has you covered.

Our Medical Imaging Center (formerly known as the X-Ray Department) contains state-of-the-art equipment and is staffed by more than 20 radiologists, plus certified and specially trained imaging technologists.

We are digitally connected to other healthcare facilities in our region, which means studies done in Culpeper's Medical Imaging Center can be transmitted or received digitally.

Here are some of the imaging procedures that are requested by physicians for patients:

MRI

MRI uses safe magnetic fields and radio waves to create extremely detailed 2-D or 3-D images of the body's internal structures. These images can be used to help in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury.

To schedule an appointment for an MRI, call (540)-829-8855.

Digital Mammography

Digital mammograms are breast x-rays that can help identify changes in breast tissue that may indicate cancer. These mammograms produce digital images that are better than film mammograms at finding cancer in women who have dense breasts, are younger than 50, and had their final menstrual periods within 12 months of their mammograms.

Mammograms are still the best detection tool available for breast cancer, and early detection of the disease can make all the difference.

To schedule an appointment for a digital mammogram, call (540) 829-8855.

CT Scan

A CT scan focuses a thin beam of x-rays on a specific part of your body, such as the head, chest, liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, or spine. The x-rays create detailed cross-sectional images of the body for the radiologist to interpret.

To schedule an appointment for a CT scan, call (540) 829-8855.

General X-ray

Using electromagnetic radiation, x-rays produce images of internal tissues, bones, and organs on film, which are then interpreted by radiologists.

To schedule an appointment for an x-ray, call (540) 829-8855.

Diagnostic Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound is a procedure that uses sound waves, not x-rays, to create images of tissues and organs within the body. During pregnancy, ultrasound helps obstetricians examine and measure the unborn baby. Arteries and veins in the neck, arms, and legs can also be viewed with ultrasound.

To schedule an appointment for an ultrasound, call (540) 829-8855.

Nuclear Medicine Scan

Nuclear medicine is a diagnostic field of radiology that uses small, safe amounts of radioactive material to help provide information about how organs of the body are functioning, as well as the anatomy of organs.

To schedule an appointment for a nuclear medicine scan, call (540) 829-8855.

Fluoroscopic Imaging

Fluoroscopy is an imaging technique used to obtain real-time moving images of the internal structures of a patient. Procedures using fluoroscopy include:

To schedule an appointment for a fluoroscopic imaging test, call (540) 829-8855.
